Kirstenbosch

What a wonderful place!! Every Botanical garden in South Africa has its
own magic, but I think Kirstenbosch tops it all. This place is truly magnificent!
The new Conservatory is great in architecture, layout and landscaping. The
recreation of a piece of natural habitat is fabulous. You could walk the
same pathways several times and still discover new plants!
The bulb section was equally appealing to me. The Clivias in full bloom,
the new yellow-flowered C.miniata var. citrina and several hybrids let me
turn green with envy. I constantly had to think about my 5cm seedlings at
home. Well, mine also might look like that one day, in several years time!!
And then the gardens! Wow! If I'd live in Cape Town I think I would spend
every afternoon in these gardens!! I did not take one photograph of the
gardens! Why?!!! Maybe I already knew then that it would definitely not
be another 19 years until I go back there.
Now I could kick myself, but at the time I simply did not have the time
to take pictures. It was all so grand, beautiful and overwhelming it took
all my energy to take it all in. I had to not only see it all, but smell
it, hear it and feel it. And it was a great experience, which gets lost if you
only walk around looking through a viewfinder! Well, next time!
At least 'next time' is not all that far away.
